Spanish, Surf and Service GUATEMALA
The sounds of snoring volcanoes and lively indigenous markets beckon you to Guatemala. This is a program for the curious, the compassionate, and above all, those who wish to be better communicators.
The quaint colonial city of Antigua will serve as your program’s base and literally, your Guatemalan home. Three undergraduate credit hours of Spanish learning will be backed up by the practice you gain while living with a homestay family. During weekend excursions the entire country will be your home, as you sample different colors in the fabric of Guatemalan culture. You will see two oceans, numerous dormant volcanoes, and the country’s rich human heritage, ranging from Afro-Caribbean to Maya indigenous cultures.
Interwoven in all of these activities are opportunities to contribute your time to meaningful service work. In Antigua you will have the chance to choose between a variety of options. Over one weekend excursion you and your program mates will work as a team to teach and promote lacrosse in a rural village. And during the week have the opportunity to reach out in a variety of ways from construction work to putting a smile on local children’s faces in a school setting. No matter what the cause or concern, your help is not only appreciated but embraced.
