University of Amsterdam (UvA)
A modern university with a rich history, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) will be joining forces with Global Players to offer a dynamic curriculum for student athletes interested in Sociology starting in 2012. UvA traces its roots back to 1632, when the Golden Age school Athenaeum Illustre was established to train students in trade and philosophy. Today, with more than 30,000 students, 5,000 staff and 250 study programmes (Bachelor's and Master's), many of which are taught in English, and a budget of around 500 million euros, it is one of the large comprehensive universities in Europe. It is a member of the League of European Research Universities and also maintains intensive contact with leading research universities around the world.
The UvA seeks to offer an inspiring international academic environment in which both staff and students can develop their talents optimally. Characterized by a critical, creative and international atmosphere, the UvA has a long tradition of open-mindedness and engagement with social issues, in keeping with the spirit of the city with which it is inextricably linked.
The Amsterdam Study Abroad program will provide 2 courses worth 5 ECTS credits each during the four-week intensive period. The rigorous curriculm will tackle popular social issues in the Netherlands as well as how sport plays an active role in the mobility of the population. Through engaging coursework and highly renowned professors, this program provides the right pairing of international learning with fun and exciting cultural immersion. Courses are offered in cooperation with the School of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam and are recognized by the Ministry of Education in the Netherlands.
University of Economics (VŠE)
Global Players has united efforts with the European Study Abroad Center in Prague to offer a diverse academic curriculum at one of the Czech Republic's top universities. The University of Economics in Prague was originally founded in 1919 as the Commercial College. The course of study was lengthened to four years in 1929 as it was incorporated into the Czech Technical University. Finally in 1953, the University of Economics was declared an independent university known in the Czech Republic by the name Vysoká _kola ekonomická v Praze (VŠE), and accredited by the Ministry of Education. In the last 10 years VŠE has gone on to become a full member of both the Community of European Management Schools and the Partnership in International Management, further establishing its ' reputation in the European Union as a progressive leading university.
VŠE is currently the leading university in the field of management and economics in the Czech Republic. With six faculties including: Finance and Accounting, International Relations, Business Administration, Informatics and Statistics, Economics and Public Administration, and Management, it is one of the largest higher education institutions and presently the only university to offer students degrees at the bachelor, masters, and doctoral levels. During the academic year, VŠE enrolls about 15,000 students (from 80 countries) who are served by more than 650 academic staff; sixty-one percent of which have doctoral degrees in their field.
VŠE is conveniently located on Winston Churchill Square (Praha 3) close to the main train station and the city center, only 20 minutes by tram from the student dorms, or a 15 minute walk from Old Town Square. Summer courses are taught in a modern classroom facility and students have access to secure Wi-Fi internet with their student ID, lunch in the cafeteria included with their meal plan, study rooms and an outdoor café.
The Prague program offers 4-credit hour courses within both the Business and Humanities disciplines. Courses are offered in cooperation with The European Study Abroad Center and the University of Economics Prague. Transcripts will be issued by the University of Economics, Prague with the signatures of the Dean of the College of Internal Relations and the Academic Director of the European Study Abroad Center.
